Red Dragon / Hanging Scroll
A fleeting miracle captured in eternal silence. The incarnation of the Crimson Dragon appears in the sanctuary of Mt. Fuji.
Mt. Fuji is a lifelong theme for Masaaki Miyazawa, one of Japan’s most celebrated photographers. This masterpiece, Red Dragon, is a true "once-in-a-lifetime" shot, captured during the harsh winter of February 2006 at Lake Shoji as the sun began to rise.
As the deep red clouds surge powerfully from the foothills of Fuji toward the heavens, they take the form of the "Dragon", the Eastern mythical symbol of protection and prosperity. The intersection of raw natural energy and serene atmosphere transcends simple landscape photography, evoking a dialogue with an unseen, great presence.
This work is a modern hanging scroll (Kakejiku) featuring cutting-edge, high-definition digital printing on traditional Japanese washi paper. While inheriting classical aesthetics, it is finished in a minimalist design and size that harmonises with contemporary architectural spaces. The colour palette of black, red, and gold is chosen specifically to invite good fortune.
Having felt a spiritual connection to dragons ever since photographing the "Cloud Dragon" at Tenryu-ji Temple in Arashiyama, Kyoto, Miyazawa marks every piece with his personal signature and seal. Each scroll is delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Bring the mystical light of Japan’s sacred peak into your own space.
